Lolo Soetoro (1935-1987), was the Indonesian and Islamic stepfather of Barack Obama. Soetoro and Stanley Ann Dunham met while both were students at the University of Hawaii and married in 1965. A geographer, he returned to Indonesia in 1966 to help map for the Indonesian government, while Dunham stayed in Honolulu to complete her studies. In 1967, Dunham and her six-year-old son moved to Jakarta to rejoin Soetoro. In 1970, Soetoro and Dunham had a daughter, Maya. They divorced in 1980.
