Spotlight on YA: In Athens, Alabama, the Limestone County school board voted 4-3 to ban the book from Ardmore High School in 2005 after a parent complained that it had offensive language. A countywide committee of teachers, parents, and administrators reviewed the book and recommended keeping the book in the library. In Carroll School District, Iowa, it was removed from an English classroom after a complaint from a pastor of the explicit language, but has since been returned.
