NPS website with the Lewis and Clark trail marked. OMG - when you are young and your mom's a teacher (read - broke) with 6 weeks off during the summer what do you do? You travel up and down the Pacific Coast with your tent in your VW wagon.  That's what we did. We camped along the Lewis and Clark Trail along the way.  It was in hindsight, a great way to grow up.

The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail retraces the steps of the Corps of Discovery from 1804 to 1806 in their search for a route to the Pacific Ocean.

On May 14th 1804, Lewis & Clark & their team departed Illinois to explore the newly purchased Louisiana Territory & to reach the Pacific coast.

Sept 1806 Lewis and Clark returned to St. Louis after exploring the Pacific Northwest of the USA. In hand were 140 maps, notes of 200 plants and animals, notes on 72 native tribes and claims to Oregon Territory.
