American Kobe Beef. Not so fast. There's no such thing. Actual Kobe beef comes from Japan. What you get here in the U.S. is American Wagyu  beef (a hybrid of the Japanese Wagyu and the Angus cattle). Still, the tell-tale sign of this "Kobe" like beef is the extensive marbling of fat, which gives the meat its flavor and tenderness. Expensive? Yes. But every now and then, a small filet is worth it.
