Kathleen Eloise Rockwell (1873–1957), best known as "Klondike Kate," gained fame as a dancer and vaudeville star during the Klondike Gold Rush, where she met Alexander Pantages who later became a very successful vaudeville/motion picture mogul. She gained notoriety for her flirtatious dancing and ability to keep hard-working miners happy, if not inebriated.

Kate Rockwell, best known as Klondike Kate, “Flame of the Yukon,” made $8,000 a week performing at venues such as the Savoy and the Orpheum theatres. In 1903, Rockwell’s lover booked her at a theatre in Texas. During her absence, he began courting another woman. After using Rockwell’s considerable earnings to purchase theatres in Seattle, Washington, he married someone else and cut all ties with the performer.
