November 21, 1963, Houston; President Kennedy, Mrs. Kennedy, and Vice-President Johnson spoke at a LULAC banquet at the Rice Hotel. The First Lady wowed the crowd by delivering her remarks in Spanish. Translated to English, she said: “I’m happy to be in the great state of Texas and I’m especially pleased to be with you, who are part of the great Spanish tradition, which has contributed so much to Texas."
