The Night Road, map art quilt by Alicia Merret. This is an imaginary aerial view of the earth below seen from an airplane coming to land at night. The fields are dark but the lights of the towns and villages are bright, and the long lines of the roads are clearly illuminated.
London-based artist Eliza Bennett began by working in textiles and fashion design, and uses techniques from those realms on her own hands. Her skin becomes cloth, on which she stitches embroidered patterns that trace a narrative
NARROW SASHING: 1. Quilt blocks = top + batting + backing, quilt all the way to edges. 2. Sashing: sew top & bottom strips to 1st block with SAME seam. 3. Join: sew bottom strip to next block, open blocks out and lay flat. Edges of blocks should meet. 4. Finish: slip-stitch top strip to 2nd block by hand.
