St. John Vianney almost did not become a priest because of his weak studies. However, he was ordained because of his holiness. Father Vianney was sent to the French village of Ars which had few God-fearing citizens. Through his works, penance and prayers, he converted the entire village. Soon, people everywhere came to seek him. He heard confessions for 16 hours everyday and converted many sinners. He is the patron saint of all priests. His feastday is on 4 August.

St. John Vianney on following Christ: "You cannot please both God and the world at the same time. They are utterly opposed to each other in their thoughts, their desires, and their actions" "I tell you that you have less to suffer in following the Cross than in serving the world and its pleasures." "If people would do for God what they do for the world, what a great number of Christians would go to Heaven."
