James Albert "Jim" Varney, Jr. (June 15, 1949 – February 10, 2000). Native of Lexington, Fayette County. Actor, comedian, musician, writer and voice artist. Best known for his role as Ernest P. Worrell, a character who appeared in numerous television commercial campaigns and movies. Varney gained worldwide fame playing Jed Clampett in the 1993 movie version of The Beverly Hillbillies. Mr. Varney is buried in the Lexington Cemetery.
