Cover a lid - better than painting - use fabric scraps.  Lay lid flat over a circle about one inch wider than the lid.  Cut strips to the edge.  Modge-podge before and after.

Thank you :) I mod podged and glittered the outside of the jar. Cut a fairy from black vinyl and stuck it to the inside, glued flowers to the jar lid, and I used battery operated string lights from Michaels on the inside.
