James Dean death location. September 30th, 1955, James Dean died in a terrible car crash on what is now Highway 46 (then numbered 466). The location of the actual crash site, the intersection of Highways 41 and 46 was dedicated the James Dean Memorial Highway in September 2005. The Cholame "post office" and Jack Ranch Cafe are located on the site.
James Dean shops at Marfa, Texas in 1955, whilst on location for the film 'Giant' in which he portrayed 'Jett Rink'. The film's depiction of 'Reata' - the 'Benedict' ranch - was shot in and around the town of Marfa, and the remote, dry plains found nearby. 'Giant' was James Dean's last film before his untimely death at the age of 24 years-old, 30 September 1955. The film was released in 10 October 1956.
