Language: In the video above, we hear Jamaica's language Jamaican Patois (Patwah), or “Creole". Jamaican Patois is similar to English from the deep south which has a French influence. Jamaican Patois developed in the 1700s between the English and French ruling of Jamaica, but it originated from West Africa. Currently, there are 3.2 million speakers in Jamaica. Some words we took from Jamaican Patois are Barbecue, Cannibal, Canoe, and Tobacco.
