Irving Berlin - Composer who came from very humble beginnings. He composed some of the greatest and most memorable songs in American history. From "Alexander's Ragtime Band" to "God Bless America" to "White Christmas," he left a legacy of music. He died on Sept 22, 1989 at the age of 101.
Irving Berlin 1888 –1989 Irving Berlin has had a greater influence upon American music than any other one man. He was Russian born and came to America with his family when he was a young boy. During his career he wrote an estimated 1,500 songs and was a legend by the time he turned 30. He went on to write the scores for 19 Broadway shows and 18 Hollywood films.
