House Sparrow our neighbours call us Sparrow Central, as our hedge and house ivy hold so many of these.


Fortunately we don't have house sparrows at our current home in semi rural Central Ohio. They were a common site in our neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. Click on this article if you are considering building bird boxes for songbirds. Definitely not a favorite bird of mine.


HOUSE SPARROW Passer domesticus Bird Spotting: Male house sparrows are reddish brown with a black bib, a small area under the beak. Females are brown with a darker brown eye stripe leading back from the eyes. Habitat: True to its name, house sparrows tend to stay close to the homes and buildings of people. They can be found in cities, towns and agricultural areas.
