Buddhism is a world religion, which arose in and around ancient Kingdom of Magadha (now in Bihar, India), and is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama (born as a prince of the ancient Kapilavastu kingdom now in Lumbini of Nepal), who has the Indian Sanskrit name "Siddhārtha Gautama" and the Indian pali name Siddhattha Gotama Buddha (literally the Awakened One).
Once Siddhartha had seen all of the sufferings in the world, he wanted to find a way to prevent them. Studying with the best teachers still didn't tell him how to stop age, sickness, and death from happening. After six years, he still faced the reality of suffering. He decided to live in the Middle way when he couldn't find an answer, which is not poverty or wealth. One day he was sitting under A bodhi tree, reflecting on his life. He came to enlightenment, and was then announced as Buddha.
