By the time Gandhi was 13-years-old, he was already married to 14-years-old Kasturba Kapadia in an arranged child marriage, common to the custom of the region. Two years later, the couple had their first child whom died days later around the same time and Gandhi's father Karamchand. In 1888, they had their first child Harilal, followed by 3 more sons in the years that followed.
