A performance indicator (test/quiz/worksheet) covering Physical Properties of Metals, Nonmetals, and Metalloids and their placement in the Periodic Table of Elements. This quiz also covers the properties and placement of the other classified groups of the periodic table.
The second of a series of infographics on the groups of the periodic table, here some general properties of the group 2 elements are examined. As stated previously, these are primarily aimed at secondary school students, hence the relative simplicity and generality of the information presented.
The Alkali Metals I wanted to display all the key points about each group of elements, in a way that was both clear and engaging for the pupils – as a consequence, the information presented is relatively basic, so that it’s accessible for as many of the year groups as possible. I also tried to include some information regarding uses of the elements or compounds containing them, in order to make it relevant and pique the pupils’ interest.
The noble gases are one of the better known groups of elements in the Periodic Table, and whilst some of their applications are obvious, such as the use of helium in balloons, others, such as the use of xenon in medical imaging and as a neuroprotector, or the use of helium as a carrier gas in gas chromatography, are a little more obscure
