Grace O’Malley is the most famous female pirate in Irish history. She lived from around 1530 to 1603, and was born into a family of sailors. When she was younger, Grace cut off all her hair after being told she could not go to sea because she was a woman. Her father eventually gave in, and took her to travel around Spain. Grace became heavily involved in the politics surrounding different Irish clans, and became a pirate. She is known as the “Irish Pirate Queen".
