The Federation Pavilion was where the first Governor General of Australia, Lord Hopetoun, the first prime Minister, Edmund Barton, and the first Cabinet were sworn in at the official inauguration of Federation in Centennial Park, Sydney, on  1st January 1901. In 1903 the Council of Concord bought the pavilion and moved it to its current location.

Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1900--1974), 4th child and 3rd son of King George V and Queen Mary.  After his older brother became King George VI (following their eldest brother Edward's abdication), Prince Henry was made potential regent for his niece, Princess Elizabeth, in case she ascended the throne as a minor. He also served as a soldier and was Governor-General of Australia for 2 years. At the time of his death he was the last surviving child of George V and Queen Mary.
