Residents in Tokyo have recently reported several sightings of possibly the most patient pet-walker in the world: an elderly man who takes his enormous African spurred tortoise (or sulcata) out for walks around the town.
A gigantea Aldabra Giant Tortoise. Tortoises are a family of land-dwelling reptiles in the order Testudines. Like their marine relatives, the sea turtles, tortoises are shielded from predators by a large dome shaped heavyshell.
The giant tortoise is threatened by introduced species to the islands which prey on young tortoises, and cattle which compete for grazing vegetation. Learn about the ways WWF works to conserve a future where people live in harmony with nature.
