As she pondered the steel door in front of her, she took gentle steps on the floor. Her bare feet were already being splintered with the old, dry wooden floor. With each step, a strong clone within her scattered to the outside regions of the body. It first appeared distorted and pixelated, like an old VHS tape. After settling into the humid air and the growing stench of despair, it transitioned into a cloudy figure of the girl. One after another, the bodies once layered tightly inside of the girl, were able to now roam free inside the room. Each of them, as independent as the next, all took different paths to walk.
Francesca Woodman - I really like how the artist has managed to create a macabre and ghostly atmosphere within their photograph by getting the sitter to move almost as if they are attempting to shield themselves from the daylight streaming through the open window. I also feel like the scene of destruction within the image, littered all over the floor, also adds to the idea of spirits and the macabre atmosphere.
