The number of nurses who specialize in caring for the elderly has grown over the years. There seems to be an aging population in many countries and this has now called a need for more geriatric nurses. They don’t seem to be as noticeable as pediatric nurses, whom from scrubs alone are evidently who they are. So how do you spot them? SUNDOWNING occurs most often in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s/other dementias. Studies estimate up to 20 % of persons with Alzheimer's/other dementias will experience increased confusion, anxiety & agitation as the day ends (sun sets). Others may experience changes in their sleep schedule & restlessness during the night. These disruptions in the sleep-wake cycle often lead to more behavioral problems causing a serious challenge for families. ~ Lori
