Geraldine Anne Ferraro (August 26, 1935 – March 26, 2011) was an American attorney, a Democratic Party politician, and a member of the United States House of Representatives. She was the first female Vice Presidential candidate representing a major American political party.

Geraldine Ferraro - In 1984, presidential candidate Walter Mondale selected Ferraro as his running mate.  It was the first time a major party nominated a woman for its presidential ticket. Ferraro served three terms in the House of Representatives, representing a New York City district. In Congress, she worked for women’s rights, leading efforts to pass the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
