George Peppard se casó en cinco ocasiones, tuvo tres hijos -dos del primer matrimonio y uno del segundo. Una de sus esposas fue Elizabeth Ashley, a la que conoció en Los insaciables.  Fumador empedernido y dado a la bebida, pasó sus últimos años en rehabilitación con otros alcohólicos para su recuperación. Enfermó cerca de los sesenta años de vida de un cáncer de pulmón que le obligó a retirarse del mundo del espectáculo y que le causó la muerte a los 65 años.

George Peppard Jr. was born in Detroit in 1928. On graduating High School he joined the United States Marine Corps on July 8, 1946. He served as a corporal with the 10th Marines, being discharged in January 1948. After the Marines he went to Purdue University to study Engineering where he took up acting. Eventually he became a full time actor and in 1958 won an MGM contract  while appearing in a Broadway play with Paul Newman and he shot to film fame.
