This is the DR & MRS VANDERTRAMP method to help you remember which verbs take on the auxiliary être (to be) in the compound passé composé. Forming the passé composé will be discussed in a later post…for now I just wanted to make a quick guide on which verbs take être in this tense, with the past participle conjugation of each verb.
There are 3 kinds of regular verbs in French: -ER, -IR, -RE. Once you’ve learned the rules of conjugation for each of theses three kinds of verbs, you should be able to conjugate regular verbs in each of those categories with ease. Use the illustration below as a guide!
