The 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er Régiment Étranger de Cavalerie - 1er REC), aka Royal Etranger, is the only armoured cavalry regiment in the French Foreign Legion. Commemoration of the Battle of Camarón, which occurred on 30 April 1863 between the French Foreign Legion and the Mexican army, and is regarded as a defining moment in the Foreign Legion's history.
