First the children drew and colored their scarecrow. The scarecrows were put aside. Children looked at two different landscape paintings. We looked for the foreground, middleground, background and the horizon line. We discussed how artists create space in a picture and students were encouraged to create space in their picture. They colored in the details with crayon. Watercolors were used to paint the land and the sky. Finally, the scarecrows were cut out and glued into their painting.
