The Keeshond breed / Dutch Barge Dog aka the Laughing Dutchman has been the National Dog since the 1700's. 2. Almere is the youngest city in the land, only becoming a municipality in 1984. Nijmegen is the oldest mentioned as far back as 1AD. 3. The flag of the Netherlands, used since 1572 (world’s oldest tricolour flag) was only officially formalised in 1937 by Queen Wilhelmina.
