You may be familiar with Sea Shepherd’s former campaigns opposing the drive hunts and mass slaughter of pilot whales and dolphins in the Faroe Islands from Discovery’s “Whale Wars” spin-off “Viking Shores.” Now, the organization has unveiled a new campaign that they say will be their largest Faroes operation to date: Grind Stop 2014.

Grindadrap is celebrated on Denmark's Faroe Islands and is marked as a annual tradition to celebrate whale hunting culture. On June 5th Pilot whales (Globicephala melaena), dolphins and beaked whales are hunted. The Faroe Islands is an autonomous province of Denmark and therefore the parent country’s ban on whaling is not enforceable by the Islands’ laws.
