A rare $4 coin made by the US in a bid to join the 19th century version of the European Union. The 'Stella' was proposed by American finance chiefs in the hope it would enable the US to join the Latin Monetary Union (LMU), which was mostly made up of European countries. Today, only six of the coins are still in existence - making them some of the most rare and sought-after pieces in the world.
