rya | carnations + tulips + poppies | 4'6" x 7'7"| Finland | woven: 1925 | this rug was probably a wedding present, copied from another rug woven in 1798. H & K are likely the bride's & groom's initials.
Glass containers, hand-painted on the inside by us, hold flower clusters arranged along a butter-yellow table runner of wide grosgrain ribbon (from left): Dutch tulips, ranunculuses, parrot tulips and sweet peas, and more Dutch tulips. Stems are clipped short so guests can see one another. Tulip-shaped chocolates (by Droste) are on each plate.
