Despite strict voter ID laws, Alabama is in the process of closing 45 of 49 driver's license offices --- This will no doubt have a devastating effect on lower-income residents. Considering 18.7% of residents live at "poverty level" and another 8.4% at extreme poverty levels, it's another blow that will surely leave more people behind. Can you imagine a single parent needing to take an entire day—or even 2 days—to travel to a driver's license office and wait...

The next step in voter restrictions: Alabama closing 45 of 49 license / ID offices just in time for 2016 elections.

After mandating voter ID, Alabama has closed all of its rural offices which serve a predominately black clientele. Driver's licenses are one acceptable form of voter ID. Their action is being investigated to see if it breaks civil rights laws.

Donate Life North Carolina recently awarded a plaque to the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles' Winston-Salem North Driver License Office for achieving the most improved donor-designation rate in its district last year. The office signed up 49.3 percent of its customers as organ and eye donors in 2011, a 2.3 percent increase from 2010.
