Paphos Travel Guide: Paphos is a city of history that has only recently began expanding its tourism industry. There are two main parts to break down for your itinerary, the upper section on the “hill”, which has most of the commercial establishments, and the lower end, also known as Kato Paphos, which has historical sites and archaeological interests.

Abandoned Village of Kayakoy

Kayakoy, Turkey; originally built in the 1700s, the town called Karmylassos in Greek was home to as many as 20,000 Greek Orthodox residents by the early 20th century. The deserted ruins of this once-bustling town are nestled against the Taurus Mountains, close to Olu Deniz. Although the approx 350 stone buildings are roofless and weathered and the narrow streets worn with age, this is not an ancient city, but a modern ruin deserted for political reasons in the 1920s.

This image is a bit of a cheat. The Callanish Stones were from an earlier trip to Lewis in May and the sky is from my recent holiday in Cyprus. While in Lewis the weather didnt co-operate to allow me to get this image in camera while I was there. The joys of Photoshop.
