Compost tea - Roger Cook's compost recipe is 2 parts carbon-rich "browns," such as dead leaves, to 1 part nitrogen-rich "greens," like rotted grass clippings. I put 7 pounds of it in a mesh sack and suspend the sack inside a rain barrel filled with water and fitted with an aerator. Then I add 12 oz each of molasses, liquid kelp and fish hydrolysate (last 2 sold by Neptune's Harvest). It takes 24 hours to brew 55 gallons
At Oregon Rain Soap we collect rainwater to make our soaps, lotions, & spritzers because the water is a soft water and blends well in our recipes. We do filter the water before we use the rainwater. I liked this website because it talks about how you can use a rain barrel collection system to water your garden, limiting what you use from the tap. Check this out!
