Arne Maynard:We re-established the main route into the house, forming an outer court by planting ancient espalier pears and commissioning a bespoke oak gate, inspired by wooden spindles from within the house, as the main entrance through the walls. The front court itself is now filled with fragrant lavender, violas, geraniums, and mature yew topiaries, and is surrounded by orchards, wildflower meadows and a kitchen garden of raised beds and architectural oak fruit cages.
