He was a college track star and Olympic athlete, placing second to Jesse Owens in the 100 meters in 1936. He served in World War II and coached at Xavier University in Louisiana before becoming a Chicago businessman, and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. #TodayInBlackHistory
