If your child has a speech or language delay, their speech therapist may suggest several strategies to help them with communication. For us, and for many, the most useful strategy has been PECS. But what are PECS and how do you get started with them?
PECS is a Picture Exchange Communication system. it is a light-tech AAC device. The board consists of pictures with the corresponding vocabulary word. This device can be helpful in the future to allow the user to create or structure sentences. It also teaches the users discrimination of pictures in order to communicate their wants and needs.
