Gable flew five combat missions, including one to Germany, as an observer-gunner in B-17 Flying Fortresses between May 4 and September 23, 1943, earning the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts.

As she was flying back from a War Bond Tour of Indiana, her plane crashed outside of Las Vegas killing her, her mother, & 20 other people. Her first sound film was "High Voltage" (1929). Starred in "My Man Godfrey" (1936) opposite William Powell whom she married in 1931, (Divorced 1933). Married Clark Gable in 1939 until her death. Her film "To Be or Not to Be" (1942) was in post-production when she died.
