The May Avenue Charger by Clarice Cliff, 1933. An avenue of red-roofed houses and spade-shaped trees, with a tree in green, Cafe-au-Lait foliage in the foreground, all in pen outline. Sold for GBP34,000 at Christie’s South Kensington in 2003
