Winter Mist, Corfe Castle by antonyspencer, via Flickr - Corfe Castle, Dorset, UK ~ The castle stands above the village and dates back in some form to the 10th century. It was the site of the murder of Edward the Martyr in 978. During the English Civil War it was a Royalist stronghold and was besieged twice, in 1643 and again in 1646. It is currently owned by the National Trust and is open to the public.

An amazing ancient yew tree with a door. The 4000 year old Crowhurst Yew in Surrey, England. The room in the ancient tree, hollowed out around 1820, can house 14-15 people. It is said that when the locals were making the room they found a cannonball embedded in the trunk, thought to have been fired in The English Civil War (1642–1651)
