Elvis Presley | First appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on September 9, 1956 ~ The press was quick to note that the cameras switched to close-up shots whenever he started dancing, in effect censoring him, but the TV audience got to see plenty, and besides, the girls screamed when he grunted, moved his tongue, crossed his eyes, or even stood perfectly still.
