'Voices From Chernobyl': Survivors' Stories

The memories of those who survived Chernobyl were collected in the book Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of the Nuclear Disaster by Svetlana Alexievich.

Image by the photographer of the Chernobyl plant, Anatoliy Rasskazov, hours after the explosion in the reactor 4, shows radioactive steam coming out of the installation. The photographer was exposed to 12 times the maximum acceptable radiation at that time. He died nineteen years later, battling cancer and blood diseases.
