Cheese and Pickle Sandwich: consists of slices of cheese (typically Cheddar) and pickle (a sweet, vinegary chutney with the most popular brand being Branston), sandwiched between two slices of bread. The inside slices of the bread may be buttered with butter or margarine, and the sandwich may include salad items such as lettuce. A popular sandwich, especially in pubs.
This spicy tomato chutney recipe from Josh Eggleton is the perfect accompaniment to cold cuts and cheese, or could be slathered on a sandwich or burger. Josh in particular recommends serving this with his veggie burger recipe, with the fiery chilli and tangy tomato chutney acting as a pepped up ketchup.
This one is a really lovely chutney. Use it on or in quiches, pizzas, plain biscuits, sandwiches or just with a cheese platter, I am sure you will love it. I do keep this in the fridge, and it never lasts long, so I am not sure as to its time of keeping, but would say at least 5-6 months.
Chilli Jam: Although I call this chilli jam, I don't mean by this that it's the sort of thing you'd spread on your toast at breakfast (though smeared inside a bacon sandwich, it could be a real help one hungover morning) but rather a chilli jelly - chelly? - that glows a fiery, flecked red and is fabulous with cold meats or a cheese plate. And just a small pot of it makes a gorgeous present.
