Cesar Milan,' the dog whisperer', an underdog himself, beat the odds. Because of his natural way with dogs, he was often called el Perrero, "the dog boy" while growing up in Mexico. At the age of 21, unable to speak any english and knowing no one, he illegally entered the US. He was hired as a dog groomer for his ability to work with the most aggressive dogs. Millan learned English and became a legal resident of the U.S. In 2000, he became a U.S. citizen.
