Dyslexia is a learning disability that effects peoples ability to learn through reading, writing and spelling, it is also known to effect peoples memory. The British Dyslexia Association (No date) explains that approximately 10% of the population is affected by dyslexia. Dyslexia effects each person differently, and currently has no specific cause, although is can be genetic.
A recent study suggests that the phonetic system may be the cause of dyslexia. Previously, researchers generally believed that dyslexia was caused by phonological impairment. "Our findings confirm that dyslexia indeed compromises the language system, but the locus of the deficit is in the phonetic, not the phonological system, as had been previously assumed."
