November 25, 1846: Born, Carrie Nation. After her first husband died of alcoholism Carrie became a passionate advocate of Prohibition. She was particularly known for destroying saloons, often with an axe. When President McKinley -- whom she suspected of being a secret drinker -- was assassinated, she said that drinkers "got what they deserved." Her description of herself was "a bulldog running along at the feet of Jesus, barking at what He doesn't like."

June 1, 1900 – Carrie Nation begins her crusade to demolish saloons. Carrie Amelia Moore Nation (November 25, 1846 – June 9, 1911) was a radical member of the temperance movement, which opposed alcohol in pre-Prohibition America. She is particularly noteworthy for promoting her viewpoint through vandalism. On many occasions Nation would enter an alcohol-serving establishment and attack the bar with a hatchet.

On December temperance advocate Carrie Nation smashed the Carey Hotel bar in Wichita, KS. She became famous for wielding a hatchet and destroying saloons as part of her crusade against alcohol.
