Caracal - (Caracal caracal) is a medium-sized wild cat that is around one metre (3.3 ft) long. The caracal is sometimes called the desert lynx or African lynx, but it is not a member of the Lynx genus. The caracal is native to Africa, Central Asia, Southwest Asia and India. The cat's name comes from the Turkish word "karakulak", which means "black ear".
The caracal has a long tuft on the tip of the ear that exceed half the length of the ear. There is no pattern in the coat, except a few spots on the underside and inside of the fore legs. It is a slender, long-legged cat of medium size with a relatively short tail. The fur on the back & sides is generally tawny grey or reddish, frosted-sand colour. The belly & the undersides of the legs & chest are whitish and spotted or blotched with pale markings. The tufted ears are black-backed.
