New Cannes award to honour ads that defy gender bias - The award will be given for “work that challenges gender bias & shatters stereotypical images of men & women which remain rooted in marketing messages.” The idea for the award came from Facebook chief operating officer & LeanIn.org founder Sheryl Sandberg, who encouraged the festival to address misrepresentations of gender in advertising.
"Millennium Mambo" by Hou Hsiao-hsien won the Technical Grand Prize in Cannes in 2001. The main character, Vicky, portrayed by actress Shu Qi narrates her life starting in 2011, 10 years earlier. She describes her youth and the story of her changing life at the beginning of the new millennium.
