"broken windows" : take frosted contact paper and cut it apart to look like fractured glass. The semi-transparent frosted contact paper takes on the appearance of the "glass" while the actual glass pane (which is transparent) disappears.

During the middle scenes of the play, the broken window that was repeatedly brought to attention symbolized the status of the Harris Family at that point. Broken. At one point in the play, neither Charlie, Porter, Ted, or Anna were able to look past their unfortunate situation (the broken window) and see the possibilities of the future (the outside).
