1939 Vincent Series A Rapide. Because of its profusion of external oil pipes, tubes and hoses, the Vincent Series A Rapide did indeed earn the epithet “Plumber’s Nightmare.” That’s just one of the many legends surrounding Vincent motorcycles, its founder, Philip C. Vincent, and its long-time chief engineer, Philip Irving. The strange part is, just about all of the legends are true. (Story and photo by Robert Smith)

There were also plenty of mongrels pretending to be Bonnevilles, including one bike of my aquaintance that was fitted with an engine that had started life as a bench mounted stationary pumping engine. It went well though!

Guy Martin | born 4 November 1981 in Kirmington, Lincolnshire, England | British motorcycle racer. Has primarily competed in road racing events. Widely regarded as an amiable and "colourful" character, Martin has at times found it difficult to concentrate on his racing, primarily as a consequence of the huge media attention he attracts, not least at the Isle of Man TT. Creating certain a degree of controversy, both with race officials and team principals.
